At Kalinga Yuva Sena, we believe that true devotion lies in serving the voiceless. This festive season, our volunteers came together to celebrate two of India’s most beloved festivals—Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi—not just with traditional fervor, but with a deep sense of purpose at our local Gaushala.
Here is a glimpse into how we merged cultural heritage with our core mission of animal welfare.
Welcoming Krishna: Janmashtami with the Gentle Giants
Lord Krishna is fondly known as Gopala, the protector of cows. What better place to celebrate his birth than a Gaushala?
Instead of confining our celebrations to pandals, our youth volunteers spent the day serving the shelter’s residents. The Gaushala was beautifully decorated with floral garlands and eco-friendly rangolis. Our team prepared special, healthy treats for the cows, including fresh green fodder, jaggery, and fruits.
The highlight of the day was the special Gau Puja, honoring the cows as a symbol of divine bounty and non-violence. Seeing the joy in the eyes of these gentle animals reminded us why we do what we do.
An Eco-Friendly Ganesh Chaturthi
As the festivities transitioned to Ganesh Chaturthi, Kalinga Yuva Sena took a strong stand for environmental conservation—another core pillar of our trust.
To combat water pollution caused by toxic Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, we championed the use of Gomaya Ganesha—beautiful, handcrafted idols made entirely from cow dung and natural clay.
- 100% Biodegradable: These idols dissolve easily in water without harming aquatic life.
- Natural Fertilizer: Once dissolved, the residue serves as an excellent organic fertilizer for plants, completing a beautiful ecological cycle.
- Supporting Local Artisans: By promoting these idols, we also supported local craftsmen who dedicate their skills to sustainable art.
The puja at the Gaushala was filled with vibrant chants, traditional music, and a shared pledge among the youth to protect our environment.
